Rest in peace, Dr Wahab Oluropo Adegbenro
The news of the death of one of my closest childhood friends, Dr Wahab Oluropo Adegbenro yesterday 2nd July, 2020 came to me as a rude shock!
I managed to sleep with the thought of waking up this morning to find it was a dream! But the fact remains!
Dr Ropo Adegbenro was until his death the Honourable Commissioner for Health in Ondo State, a position he held for a second time. He had once held the position of Commissioner for Culture and Tourism!
Dr Adegbenro was a patriotic Ilara-Mokin son! He held several positions at various times in the Egbe’s Executive of which I am the current National President!
Dr Ropo Adegbenro single handedly founded the Klova Club Ilara-Mokin, in 1976! The longest surviving frontline elite Club in Ilara-Mokin todate. He drafted the constitution and nominated the interim executive members, giving himself the humble position of a PRO! He later became a President along the line.
He was a unique personality! Open to all! A friend and brother to all! A Doctor of all! Too generous and compassionate! He was generous to a fault! His private hospital, (Crown Hospital, Akure) is like general hospital, more or less a charity home, free to all! The poorest politician (in terms of material things) you could imagine! I doubt if there could be any one like him!
He was always full of life; could Ropo have had an enemy? But for politics, Ropo was a Saint to many of us! His being in politics was purely for the people as his being in medical practice! We used to tease him that he was not a ‘politician’! Not a typical Nigerian politician!!!
The family has lost a benefactor, I have lost a good and compassionate friend, Klova Club Ilara-Mokin has lost a leader and founder, Ilara-Mokin has lost a gem, the world has lost a loving soul!
May his humble soul Rest In Peace!
